Workshops
The SETAC International Programs Committee cordially invites you to
participate in the symposium Application
of Weight-of-Evidence (WoE) in Risk-Based Ecological Assessment Frameworks, which will take place on Sunday, 3 May 2015, from 9:00-17:00.
The symposium will highlight some of the international chemicals management
systems that are currently in place and will emphasize the factors most
important for undertaking a risk-based WoE ecological assessment, including
problem formulation, evaluation of data quality and assessment of lines and
strength of evidence. The symposium will also explore fate, hazard and exposure
evaluation, and characterization of uncertainty. Chemicals management
regulatory programs have experienced an explosion of international activity as
regulatory authorities prioritize the need to systematically assess the
ecological risks associated with chemicals in commerce. The emergence of these
chemicals management regulatory programs has been accompanied by an equivalent
growth in the science associated with their implementation. The scientific
community has been especially active in the refinement of risk-based WoE
methods and techniques to evaluate the risks from exposure to chemicals. As an
international leader in advancing the science associated with ecological
assessment, this symposium further illustrates SETAC’s longstanding tradition
of bringing practical solutions to environmental challenges.
